Even in the development/generosity world terms are thrown around as if everyone should know what they mean.
 
So, in that vein, here are six development terms you should know…

“The photo you used of that iconic George Floyd mural to advertise your class? It was copyrighted. We just got a fine for $250.”
 
“What?” I said incredulously. And that was the end of the conversation.

“Have you left any provision for our congregation in your will?”

Even though they say they don’t like to talk about money, people desperately know that it takes a too prominent place in their lives. They want to know what to do about that.

Asking for help gives someone the chance to be helpful. In my experience people nearly always want to be helpful. Thank people directly for their pledge, help them be seen and feel recognized and important for giving.
